INTERVIEW TECHNIQUES COURSE
What is an interview?
An interview is a meeting for two-way discussion and to exchange information. There are many types of interview:
With employers or recruitment organisations/agencies.
With one person, or several, whether one at a time or all together (panel interview).
In person, face to face, or over the telephone.
The 'technical' interview, to see whether you can do the job, whatever it is, which may involve some form of testing.
With a group of other applicants. Here one person will be assessed against the others on things such as leadership, team working etc.
An Appraisal Interview, regarding progress and development.
A Discipline Interview, when there is a need to investigate and deal with an issue, often resulting is some form of action or sanction.
A Counselling interview, whereby the interviewer seeks to assist the interviewee over some issue(s), often requiring delicate handling as certain issues may be sensitive or emotionally charged.
Most Interviewers ask bad questions.
Asking questions is not a natural human talent, as we : -
Naturally talk too much
Lead the interviewee
Overload the interviewee with multiple questions
The result is a very bad interview where the limited amount of information obtained is of a poor quality.
Then we wonder why certain decisions were ever made!
TC TRAINING utilises the many years experience of their instructors/facilitators to assist the delegates in adapting to a better system of interviewing.
There are positive measures that one can adopt to become an effective interviewer, and indeed, the same skills are necessary to become a successful interviewee.
MOST interviews are set up because both parties want them to go ahead, e.g. job interviews, where an organisation wants to recruit the best person for the job, and all the applicants want to sell themselves as the best possible candidate.
How, then, can YOU ensure that the best person is selected?
If you are one of the interviewers, then you must learn to be a GOOD INTERVIEWER.
If you are the interviewee, then you must sell yourself, and learn how to assume control of the interview from the BAD INTERVIEWER without them being aware of it.
